I grew up in the late fifties and early sixties in a small village near the county town of Stafford. The second eldest of six children we lived in a council house with my father who was hard working and equally hard drinking. He was stranger to a night in front of the telly and spent most of his time cycling from pub to pub looking for utopia in the bottom of a pint glass. He met my mother, who was born in Finland, whilst serving in the army after the second world war.
When I was sixteen my father decided that Australia would be a better place than England to raise his family because he didn't like the Beatles, Harold Wilson and the fact that the wind was always against him when he was riding his bike.
To be continued
BOOKS UPDATE: Sorry, but all of my books are now unpublished.
By the way, in my latter years I wrote a number of books chiefly about fishing and growing up in the Staffordshire countryside. You can see the covers at the top of the homepage. However, I self published them on Amazon and have been selling them steadily for the past ten years. However, I am now past retirment age and sick of having to administrate a business that is now barely cost effective. Filling in tax return forms etc is a pain in the bum, so I have unpublished my books and can now enjoy a proper retirement.
